Here’s 44th Parallel Photography’s Photo of the Week. And on time, no less. Wooohoooo!!!
During my mini photo trek yesterday, I discovered a Ruffed Grouse in the sandy bank alongside a dirt road, having a dust bath. It was one of those rare and wonderful wildlife photography moments were you actually run out of memory card before you run out of opportunity to shoot. Maybe you have experienced this, but it’s pretty much a novelty to me. Usually wildlife photo opportunities are fleeting and you just do the best you can under the circumstances.
I watched and photographed this Ruffed Grouse having it’s dirt bath for about 5 minutes and then actually left to do something else. Came back and she was still bathing, but in a different dirt hole [must be a her because she was having a long, leisurely bath]. I photographed her for about 10 more minutes when I ran out of memory cards. But she was still going at it. There was nothing on her mind except bath time and she wasn’t going to be disturbed. I can relate… 🙂
