Photo of the Week – For The Birds

This week’s Photo of the Week was taken yesterday at my new perch set up on the front lawn. I’ve been reading Alan Murphy’s second e-book on bird set up photography, The Photographer’s Guide To Attracting Birds, and gleaning tons of great ideas from him on how to attract birds to perches for bird photography.

I created four different set-ups in the front yard, sprinkled them with seeds, put out some suet, and hopped in my blind and waited. There was a flurry of activity with Black-capped Chickadees darting about everywhere! But then the Bluejays came in – the bullies of the winter bird feeder world. Bluejays are bold and brazen and take over the entire show. This guy that I photographed, was no different. He was curious about my big 600 mm lens poking out of the blind and kept looking at me. It made for a nice shot, with the bird’s head framed by the green of hemlock branches.
